Elements of Competency Performance Criteria
Element: Determine thermal cutting job requirements
  • Identify thermal cutting requirements including relevant standards and codes from drawings, specifications and other customer and enterprise documentation
  • Check material to be cut is to specification and job requirement

Element: Confirm NC/CNC thermal cutting machine suitability for job requirements
  • Identify machine features and specifications including programming language and thermal cutting capabilities
  • Identify machine safety features
  • Establish required cutting path and machine operations using drawings and cutting machine controls and software
  • Confirm required operations for NC/CNC thermal cutting machine

Element: Prepare for thermal cutting programming
  • Check alignment of material to machine cutting head/s and datum points
  • Program cutting head centre point for job and check location and alignment
  • Calculate coordinates for cutting path
  • Check availability of logical subroutines and other standard instructions for position orientation
  • Check job for any positions or cutting paths requiring non-standard instructions

Element: Write or record program
  • Write or record program in required code format for cutting path and cutting parameters using machine controller or software
  • Perform any additional programming required including instructions, thermal cutting recording and lower-level programming
  • Produce operation sheets to specification in accordance with standard operating procedures (SOPs)
  • Trial program on test material
  • Verify thermal cutting and program performance against required specifications
  • Edit program to adjust thermal cutting operations including using manual operation if necessary
  • Save final program and complete operation sheets and records according to enterprise procedures

Submission Requirements

List each assessment task's title, type (eg project, observation/demonstration, essay, assignment, checklist) and due date here

(add new lines for each of the assessment tasks)

Assessment Tasks

Copy and paste from the following data to produce each assessment task. Write these in plain English and spell out how, when and where the task is to be carried out, under what conditions, and what resources are needed. Include guidelines about how well the candidate has to perform a task for it to be judged satisfactory.
Copy and paste from the following performance criteria to create an observation checklist for each task. When you have finished writing your assessment tool every one of these must have been addressed, preferably several times in a variety of contexts. To ensure this occurs download the assessment matrix for the unit; enter each assessment task as a column header and place check marks against each performance criteria that task addresses.
